This article brings to light another reason why logging in rainforests is not a good thing for the environment. Not only does logging create land that is susceptible to erosion, but also is creating a habitat favorable to the black rat. The black rat is an invasive species, who's habitat is that of fallen trees, leaves etc. A result of the introduction of the black rat is an entirely different ecosystem from the original ecosystem that is by no means good for the environment. This is a serious issue because it is yet another reason why we should not, or should at least responsibly log the rainforests; these invading rats may outcompete native mammals and disrupt the natural order of things in the rainforest.
