The flying fox lives on an island called Muritius. It has a 2.5 foot wing-span, fox like face, and yellow fur. The Mauritius flying fox provides necessary elements to ecosystems, such as pollinating flowers and dispersing seeds of many plant species. Now, Mauritius's government is in the process of killing of 18,000 on the unsupported belief that they are causing major damage to lychee and mango fruit crops, which runs the economy. I understand that the country is frustrated with the bats because they are affecting their livelihood, but the country does not understand that killing the bats also hurts them in the long-term.
